PRINCIPAL’S NOTES FOR APRIL

HAPPY SPRING!!! I was in Massachusetts for Easter and the dew drops were blooming and
the daffodils were up about an inch. I still have snow at my house! I am looking forward to
some warm, sunny weather and I know that I am not alone with this thought.

Looking ahead to April is especially exciting for the fifth grade as they prepare for their
week away from school and their families. They will be leaving for Boston University Sargent Center for Outdoor Education in Hancock, NH on Monday, 4/14 with their stuffed suitcases and backpacks. They will be gone all week for academic learning and fun outdoors. When they return on Friday, 4/18, they will be tired, glad to be home and have numerous
stories about their week away together. This is one experience at KES that they will talk
about for years afterwards.

The Spring Parent Report Card Conferences will be held on
Wednesday, 4/9 from 1:30-3:30 and 5:30-7:30. Each teacher will be sending you their individual schedules for their classrooms and asking all parents to respond with what times work best for you. The PTO is sponsoring the Scholastic Book Fair “2 for 1 sale” during parent conferences from 1:00-6:30. More information will be coming home to you about
this event. Our “Spring School Pictures” will be taken on Tuesday, 4/1. This is the third
year that we will be offering school pictures to be taken in the spring. Most parents in the
past have really loved these pictures.

The “New Kindergarten Parent Orientation Night” will be held on Monday, 4/14 at 6:30 in Mrs. Greenwood’s room and the children will visit KES the following day on Wednesday, 4/16. What a fun day that always is when we see our
new students for the first time and for many, they have a chance to take their first school
bus ride. The Gates Reading Testing for students in grades one and two will take place the
week beginning Monday, 4/14 until Friday, 4/18. Just a reminder to all parents of first and
second grade students that it will be important that all your children get a good night sleep
especially during that week. And finally, the KES Wellness Advisory Committee will be
sponsoring a “Food Tasting” event to be held during lunches for the children the week of
Monday, 4/21 to Friday, 4/25. More information will be coming home soon regarding this
event.

On a final note, I wanted all the KES families to know that we are extremely proud of two
KES students. DJ O’Donnell, a fourth grader, represented KES at the Regional State Spelling
Bee in February over vacation and he did very well! He didn’t win the opportunity to move
on to the State Spelling Bee but we are very proud of his accomplishments. Jacob Dearborn, a fifth grader will be representing KES Friday, April 4 at the state level of the National Geographic Bee which will be held at Keene State College in Keene, N.H. We wish him the best of luck and we know that he will do very well at this competition.

I look forward to seeing most of you at parent conferences in the next couple of weeks.
Until then, enjoy the longer days and warmer weather. Spring is finally here, I think.

Barbara
